Alexander McQueen Women’s Fall 2011 2012 RTW
Alexander McQueen ready to wear collection was a beautiful display of amazing silks and delicate embroidery. A truly amazing fall 2011 collection from Paris.
Through and through we see white, white fur, white brocades and white accessories. Of course that was all building up to the mind blowing wedding dresses for the finally but I’ll get to that in a bit. The other dresses that used white had structured waists and full arms that made the waist teeny tiny. The slim waist was emphasized throughout the collection with belts and some corset like belts that looked like a stylish back brace.
Sarah Burton used a ton of zippers throughout this collection on the skirts and along the hemlines of dresses to create slits and pleats in the thick fall fabrics. It is cool that these skirts can be transformed into pencil styles if the occasion calls for that.
Fur was a focus for this collection as with most collections this season. For Alexander McQueen the fur was used as an accent on shoulders, cuffs, on hemlines of jackets and skirts, and to accent hips, the collar and sweeping down the front of the coats. In the latter part of the show you get to see fur peek out through diamonds cut into leather where the fur went from long at the neck to short around the waist and then long again around the bottom emphasizing that all important waist.
The darker portion of the day wear had elements of punk, princess, and something Joan of Arc would toss on to prepare for battle. A leather harness was worn that looked like a medieval bra one would wear on the outside of a shirt. Leather short pants with zips up the front of the leg were also worn bringing a hard edge to the otherwise very feminine dresses.
Alright now to the part everyone is talking about… Kate Middleton’s Dress and which one will she choose? I think it is fair to say that one will be custom made for her and it will be absolutely fit for a princess. However I think any of the floor length white gowns would be an excellent choice and Sarah Burton obviously wanted to show the world a preview of what was to come for the dear Kate Middleton.
The white gowns were made of organza, feathers, and tons of embroidery. The silhouettes were all very clean and sleek on top while carrying an extremely voluminous bottom while usually having a mammoth train. Kilometres of ruffled silk must have been used in the full skirts of these dresses as they swooshed down the runway and took up the whole catwalk.
I cannot wait to see Kate wear one of these gowns it will be the most beautiful wedding ever. This show, like all Alexander McQueen shows deserves a standing ovation in terms of the clothes I just hope Sarah Burton picks up on the theatrics of the game of a runway show. These pieces can definitely hold their own against the background of a royal palace so why show them at the Concierge where Marie Antoinette was taken to her death??? Here’s a thought Sarah, Perhaps the future Queen doesn’t want to wear a dress that walked down the same halls that no doubt still hold the fear of impending execution by a queen of yester year. I say, Next time you plan a show consult someone… me perhaps. I won’t lead you in the wrong direction. Promise!
